3 Reasons Honey Is Good For Eyelashes

Here are the three main reasons why honey is good for eyelashes:
Moisturizes hair
Honey is a humectant. This means that it draws in water from the atmosphere and locks it into your hair.
Conditions hair
Even though honey is a sugar, it contains a small amount of protein. Honey also has a wide range of beneficial ingredients, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants.
Furthermore, honey is an emollient. It smoothes the hair follicles and hence improves their ability to protect the hair. As a bonus, this increases their shine.
Helps with skin health
Your eyelashes grow out of your eyelids.
Any problems with the health of your eyelids can, therefore, result in you having problems with your eyelashes.
Honey cleans, nourishes, and protects the skin. It can also help to treat common eye issues. This can indirectly benefit your eyelashes.
Can Honey Help Grow Eyelashes?
Honey can help grow eyelashes. More specifically, honey encourages the development of epithelial cells. These are the cells used to make hair follicles and hair ducts.
Honey also moisturizes and conditions eyelashes. This can help to reduce the number of eyelash hairs lost to damage rather than shed naturally.

You will need
2 parts honey to 1 part olive oil

Honey and banana hair mask

1/4 cup olive oil
2 mashed bananas
- Mix everything together until it forms a smooth paste. A blender is useful here.

The quantities here are more than you will need for one eyelash treatment. You can, however, also use this mask on your head hair.

You will need
1 part honey to 2 parts aloe vera gel, 2 parts yogurt, and 1 part olive oil
- Mix all the ingredients well.
- Apply to the eyelashes and leave for 20-30 minutes.

You can, however, make it in larger quantities and use it on your head hair. It’s great for treating dandruff and irritated scalps.
Honey and water mask

1 part honey to ⅔ part water.
- Mix together well. You may find it helpful to use heat.
- Massage into your eyelids and eyelashes.

If your eyelids are feeling sensitive for any reason, this mask can be a double win. It will soothe and cleanse the eyelid while it conditions your skin and eyelash hair.
Risks And Warnings Of Using Honey
Even though honey is a very safe ingredient, always patch test before you use a new recipe or product.
Be very careful when working around your eyes, particularly if you’re using anything hot.
If any product gets in your eyes, rinse immediately with cold, fresh water and, if necessary, seek medical attention.
All treatments with honey in them will generally need to be removed with a gentle shampoo and lukewarm water.
Likewise, stay alert for any reactions after using it internally. Never apply honey directly to the eye area. Always dilute for example in water or oil.
